I-20 East Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Strategy Plan
DeKalb County, Atlanta
The TOD planning process fully incorporates stakeholder and public outreach to identify community needs, build consensus, and understand constraints to development. The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) and DeKalb County partnered to conduct the I-20 East Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Strategic Plan funded by a grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The purpose of this project is to create a blueprint for TOD at six proposed transit station sites along the I-20 East corridor between the existing Indian Creek Station and the proposed Mall at Stonecrest Station.

TOD at each station will be integrated into a walkable neighborhood centered served by quality public transit. Working in tandem with public outreach and a market analysis, I proposed feasible development materplan desired by local residents. The study identifies strategies to create a mix of housing, office, retail, and other amenities tailored to the unique condition of each station area. I was the lead designer for Indian Creek Station. It is the first station on the new line extension. A corridor approach to the mix of land uses will strengthen the area’s economy and generate MARTA ridership. The deliverable include marketing materials that promote a corridor-wide vision of TOD to prospective developers, strategic support for local governments in delivering TOD in advance of transit investments.
