Providence Downtown Transit Connector
Providence, Rhode Island
Commissioned by Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) to advance design and engineering of the Downtown Transit Connector (DTC) – Our team planned, high-frequency transit corridor connecting the Providence Amtrak/MBTA Station and the Hospital District in Upper South Providence, includes service through Kennedy Plaza.

With the goal of enhancing RIPTA service using transit signal priority, dedicated bus lanes, and enhanced bus shelters with attractive passenger amenities and provide real time bus arrival information, I examined the existing street condition along the corridor and developed design options to accommodate the enhanced bus and bike facilities, as well to create attractive
public spaces around each stop. Bike lanes will also be constructed along portions of Streets, and the City will install bike share stations along the corridor. As part of the study, I also developed redesign concepts for Kennedy Plaza to make it a more active, vibrant, safe, and attractive city center while also accommodating public transit in support of the City’s broader long-term vision for this area and its plan to convert Washington Street into a two-way, bus-only, transit way.
